“Dear passengers, the train named 'Dọc Ray' is about to depart…”

Join us on the “Dọc Ray” journey this June 26, where YKL Films presents a small and intimate exhibition and workshop space, bringing together the reflections, passion, and perspectives of young people taking their first steps into the world of independent filmmaking.

At this station, you will hear personal stories from YKL Films through a workshop sharing their filmmaking journey, especially the challenges and real-world lessons learned from the project "Hello Me by the Railway Tracks" (Chào tôi bên ray đường). As the sharing session is intentionally kept small so that we can sit close, connect, and have meaningful conversations, the number of seats available on this train is extremely limited.

Don't wait too long!!!

See you aboard this train of young dreamers in love with cinema!

___

"Don't let anything overshadow your passion, and you don't need to wait until you're 'ready' to begin. Join YKL FILMS at the Ho Chi Minh City Innovation and Startup Center to discover how an independent film is brought to life from zero."

You will experience a visual exhibition showcasing the complete A-Z journey behind YKL FILMS' latest independent film project, "Hello Me by the Railway Tracks", and engage in honest, practical conversations with the Director, Art Director, and the team as they share their experiences firsthand...

The workshop is completely free for all film lovers and anyone interested in learning more about independent filmmaking. As seating is limited, registration will help ensure you have a comfortable seat throughout the workshop.

The workshop is designed in two sessions, morning and afternoon, with continuous content, including:

Director Lại Ngọc Hiếu introduces the practical mindset of independent filmmaking

The production process of independent films/short films (small-scale productions)

A practical case study: "Hello Me by the Railway Tracks"

Hands-on "Quick Thinking" practice through a real-life Mini Game using props from the film project itself

The Sediment of Light is far more than an exhibition; it is a profound visual performance, an artistic dialogue, and a historical transformation of the medium. It traces an unbroken lineage from photography's fundamental, archival foundations at the dawn of its invention to the independent, fiercely globalized reality of contemporary Vietnam.

Bringing together an exceptional gathering of eighteen distinct voices, this curation encapsulates the complex frictions of identity, memory, vision, and cultural hybridity. Through these diverse angles, the artworks emerge like fragments of a kaleidoscope, refracting the most brilliant, nuanced, and loving dimensions of a nation and culture on the verge of change. Collectively, this boundary-defying assembly challenges the orthodoxies of the photographic frame, sparking a critical dialogue within our interconnected global landscape.

Program Series - Session 1: Updates from the Bến Tre Field Study 2026

Time: 6:30PM - 9:00PM | Thursday, 18.06.2026
Location: Sài Gòn Ward
Speakers: Tản Mạn Kiến Trúc Project
Register: https://forms.gle/y1vVzW5ZAbQ6uQn2A

We returned to Bến Tre during a period of prolonged heat. Under the intense May sun, a team of anthropologists, architects, botanists, and ecology researchers came together to conduct a field survey on “local knowledge.”

Through conversations with local residents, we began to understand how they organize their lives in harmonious relationship with water, soil, plants, and insects. We also observed the community’s enduring ability to adapt to the constant transformations of both the environment and society.

Drawing from materials and reflections still fresh from the fieldwork, we invite you to join the survey team in a discussion about the uniquely fascinating land of Bến Tre. From houses, gardens, and rivers to monsoon winds, saltwater intrusion, and insects, we will reflect together on the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature within a constantly shifting landscape.

“Updates from the Field” aims to spark interest in fieldwork as a method of data collection, while opening discussions about methodology and experience through a spirit of multidisciplinary and multidirectional exchange.

For each session, we will invite a guest commentator. This may be a researcher, a practitioner working in a related field or topic, or local people whom we met during the journey.

READING THEATRE #29 - “THIRD-RATE ACTOR”

7:30PM, Tuesday, 16/06/2026
La Rotonde Saigon (185B Trần Hưng Đạo, Cầu Ông Lãnh Ward, HCMC)
Please contact hotline 0938 776 389 (Ms. An Khánh) to reserve tickets.

Inspired by the short story of the same name by writer Lý Lan, the reading theatre piece “Third-Rate Actor” begins backstage at a small theater - where Đạt, a stagehand, constantly wonders why a stylish stranger keeps buying tickets night after night. On the fourth evening, the audience member asks Đạt to deliver a bouquet and an invitation card to supporting actress Mỹ Duyên, sparking the jealousy of the lead actress.

As it turns out, the man is Philip - a French Vietnamese expatriate whose elderly father, drifting between lucidity and confusion, wishes to close his eyes in his homeland. Unable to stay by his side because of work, Philip hires Mỹ Duyên to play the role of his sister living in Australia so that his father will have someone to care for him. Desperate for money to pay for her elder sister’s medical treatment, Mỹ Duyên reluctantly accepts the role in real life.

Yet the seemingly simple father-child play soon begins to unravel. Each character is forced to confront tragedies they have long concealed. Mỹ Duyên, orphaned at a young age, uses the stage as a place where she can call out “mother” and mourn the incompleteness of her own life. Meanwhile, Mr. Tư - the ailing father - pretends to be only half-aware in order to return to his hometown and seek forgiveness for mistakes from his past. Each person quietly carries their own role until they can no longer continue acting.

“The children put on an act to make you happy, while you put on an act so the children can be at peace. Every age comes with a role to play, but the role of an old person is far more painful and difficult…”

Unlike conventional theater, reading theatre relies only on voices, breaths, sobs, and laughter to guide listeners into the story... In the intimate setting of La Rotonde Saigon, actors Đinh Mạnh Phúc, Thùy Dương, Ngọc San, Quốc Long, Bảo Kun, and Lê Chi Na will invite audiences to experience the story through their own imagined stage.

Nothing to See There is the second iteration of Nothing to See Here, reimagined at 22Gallery with new artists, new works, and a new spatial context. Through painting, sculpture, ceramics, installation, and performance, the exhibition explores queerness, intimacy, vulnerability, and unstable forms of presence. Moving between visibility and concealment, the works reflect on how identity and desire are shaped through fragmentation, participation, and shifting forms of proximity.

"Thanh Không" - A Quiet Field of Convergence Between Music and Painting

Launching the album “Em Và 30” with 11 songs by singer Võ Lê Vy, alongside 11 paintings by artist Lê Văn Trọng, within an artistic space created by Thanh Tao.

Thanh Không is a pure space where painting and music meet in a state of profound stillness. From layers of blue tones resembling traces of a fragile state suspended between presence and disappearance, to romantic and solitary melodies colored by forgotten memories, singer Võ Lê Vy and artist Lê Văn Trọng guide visitors into a distilled emotional landscape: where memories settle, sadness is gently unraveled, and people face themselves as if gazing into a tranquil lake.

The experience at Thanh Không is woven from two delicate artistic materials, the fusion of wistful shades of blue and fragile melodies:

Visual (Artist Lê Văn Trọng): An artist who expresses inner emotions through a unique sensitivity to color, using oil paint as his primary medium. The blue tones in his paintings carry a sense of lonely longing, thin as morning mist yet concealing intense emotional vibrations beneath the surface.

Auditory (Singer Võ Lê Vy): Choosing to slow down and listen more deeply within, Võ Lê Vy’s music has a special quality: it allows listeners to appreciate the beauty of sadness without ever letting them sink into it. This is also the spirit of “Em và 30” - an album consisting of 11 compositions by Thành Nghiệp and Thân Sao Mai, written from the threshold of turning thirty.

EXHIBITION | WE, THE RIVERS OF SOUTHERN VIETNAM | NOUS, LES FLEUVES DU SUD

Opening: 10:00AM, 17.06.2026
Exhibition: 17.06 - 17.10.2026
Location: HCMC History Museum | 2 Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm, Saigon Ward, HCMC
Admission tickets: according to museum regulations.

Within the framework of the Living with Rivers project, initiated by the Embassy of France in Vietnam and the French Institute in Vietnam, the exhibition “We, the Rivers of Southern Vietnam” offers diverse perspectives on the relationship between people and rivers in Vietnam.

Adapted from the exhibition “We, the Rivers” organized by the Musée des Confluences (Lyon, France) in 2022, the exhibition highlights the distinctive characteristics of Southern Vietnam’s rivers, from the intricate waterways of the Mekong Delta to ongoing urban transformations.

Nearly 80 artifacts, paintings, photographs, and archival materials have been selected through the collaboration of four museums in Ho Chi Minh City (including the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of History, Ho Chi Minh City Museum, Southern Women's Museum, and Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts), collectively telling the story of rivers through a range of themes, from their origins to their future.

By combining scientific knowledge with an emotionally engaging approach, the exhibition aims to inspire new reflections on the relationship between people and rivers, while opening discussions on more sustainable ways of living together in the future.

We sincerely thank all partners for their valuable support and important contributions to the success of this exhibition and project.

We warmly invite the public to visit and explore.

Come join us this Friday for a talk with artist Linh San!!!

Theme: Issues in Contemporary Expressions through Traditional Mediums
Date & Time: Friday, May 29, 2026 | 4:30PM - 7:00PM
Venue: AirHue - 4/15 Nguyễn Hữu Dật, Kim Long, Huế
Moderator: Nguyễn Minh Ngọc

Expression is always bound to context, and context, in turn, is governed by time and space. Traditional materials, having evolved from within and alongside the aesthetics of days past, boundlessly take on different manifestations in an era characterized by a myriad of materials and dense cultural intersections. This conversation addresses the issues encountered at this specific juncture of the traditional and the contemporary, while opening up a space for artist Linh San to share her own direction and approach.

During the conversation, Linh San will revisit understandings of tradition and traditional materials within a contemporary context by presenting the creation process of selected works from her art practice. The relationship between material and artist is not merely about using what is readily available; it is always a dynamic of observation, labor, adaptation, negotiation, and give-and-take. Even when the final artwork manifests through a single material, its expression may well have been transformed because throughout the creative process, the artist has worked with many different mediums. Craftsmanship, artisanship, and the physical elements of artistic creation will be discussed within the concurrent contexts of industrialization and post-industrialism in Vietnam.

Graphic design by Xuka.

This talk is part of the 2026 Residency Program AirHue x Goethe-Institut Hanoi. Applicants interested in the program can find more detailed information via the link in our bio. Please submit your application by 11:59PM (GMT +7) on June 15, 2026.

What are Northern Buddhism, Southern Buddhism, Hinayana, Mahayana, Original Buddhism, Developed Buddhism, and Khất Sĩ?
