Mở: Mettler-based Creative Dance Workshop @ Maa Durga Yoga Studio https://saigoneer.com/saigon-events/28788-mở-mettler-based-creative-dance-workshop-maa-durga-yoga-studio https://saigoneer.com/saigon-events/28788-mở-mettler-based-creative-dance-workshop-maa-durga-yoga-studio

As part of MỞ — a non-profit project initiated by practitioners of Creative Dance based on the Mettler method in Vietnam — this 2-day Creative Dance Workshop offers an extended and in-depth practice space for those who wish to spend more time exploring the body and movement after an introductory experience.

WORKSHOP INFORMATION | HCMC

9:00AM - 4:00PM, Saturday - Sunday, March 28-29, 2026.
Maa Durga Yoga Studio | 66 Nguyễn Ngọc Phương Street, Bình Quới Ward, HCMC.

IN THIS 2-DAY WORKSHOP, YOU WILL...

  • Practice the Mettler method directly — a movement approach developed and practiced internationally for more than 80 years, exploring dance through organic movement and the natural artistry of the human body.
  • Have enough time for the body to truly “open”: You will have the opportunity to repeat, observe, adjust, and recognize your own subtle movements. Building familiarity with the body is the foundation of creative movement.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the movement process: From individual observation to group interaction, you will move through a continuous flow rather than fragmented segments, allowing presence and connection to emerge more naturally and harmoniously.
  • Nurture creativity as an ongoing practice: Two days together help cultivate a deeper sense of safety and trust, opening space for further experimentation and unexpected experiences.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

  • Anyone seeking time to reconnect with themselves and unlock creativity through movement.
  • Those curious about the Mettler method and interested in experiencing a simple creative practice that can be applied to personal development, community work, or human-centered spaces.
  • Participants who have previously joined Creative Dance training based on the Mettler method and wish to have more practice space, deepen their experience, and explore the method further within a group context.
  • People with no dance background or movement experience. You do not need to know how to dance to join this workshop.
  • Capacity: 12–20 participants

Note: This is NOT a therapeutic workshop and does not replace any form of psychological or medical treatment.

FACILITATORS

  • Thắm Trần — A member of the Creative Dance community practicing the Mettler method, with over 180 hours of training with Mettler Studio. Thắm researches and practices the application of Play in education to transform violence and nurture peace among children in different living contexts.
  • Hương Trà — A Creative Dance practitioner trained in the Mettler method with 100 hours of training at Mettler Studios. Trà is also a yoga instructor focusing on restoring balance and a TRE facilitator (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises).
  • Phan Thanh Hằng — A Creative Dance practitioner using the Mettler method. Having experienced joy and connection through movement, Hằng wishes to share that gift with the wider community.
  • Molly Moore Abrams — A practitioner of Mettler-based Creative Dance.

CONTRIBUTION: This is a non-profit project aimed at sharing Creative Dance with the community. However, to demonstrate commitment and acknowledge the efforts of the organizing team, participants are invited to contribute with the spirit of: Pay from your heart — a flexible contribution of your choice ranging from 790.000–1.200.000VNĐ for 2 days.

ABOUT THE MỞ PROJECT — Mettler-based Creative Dance

MỞ is a Creative Dance experience project based on the Mettler method, initiated and operated by Vietnam Dance/Movement Therapy (VDMT) with professional advisory support from Mettler Studio (USA).

This social dance project works with communities to return dance to its true essence: dancing for the sake of dancing — not performance, but a fundamental human form of expression accessible to everyone.

Through organic movement and shared group experiences, MỞ creates a safe, artistic, and inclusive space where anyone can participate. No dance experience is required — only curiosity and a willingness to be present with the body and movement.

Hi friends,

In 2026, we are launching a new talk series titled “Thích Thì Talk” — a space where we invite art/architecture practitioners who rarely speak publicly about their work to share more intimate reflections on their practice. The talk will be hold in Vietnamese or/and English, French.

Our first guest for “Thích Thì Talk” 01 is a bad child Lê Xuân Tiến, an artist with a distinctive artistic universe. We are curious about the world he has created — not only through his artworks, but also through his daily practice and the particular interests he has cultivated over the years.

Time: Sarturday 7/3/2026 - 2:00PM (France) / 8:00PM (Vietnam)

The talk will be held in Vietnamese and will unfold in two parts: a conversation in which Tiến speaks about his work, followed by an open Q&A session.

We recommend that you watch his works before the talk: https://lxtien.wordpress.com/.

Biography provided by the artist:
Lê Xuân Tiến (b. 1995) lives and works in Hanoi. Under certain circumstances and conditions, Tiến is a video artist. Beginning with an interest in comics, movies, and found-footage practices, he currently works with a collage-based approach, combining online-sourced materials with those he produces himself.

Chúng ta là Pẩmore - A Paramore Tribute Night @ HUB Venue https://saigoneer.com/saigon-events/28783-chúng-ta-là-pẩmore-a-paramore-tribute-night-hub-venue https://saigoneer.com/saigon-events/28783-chúng-ta-là-pẩmore-a-paramore-tribute-night-hub-venue

After 12 years since the first Paramore fanclub offline gathering, which took place as a music performance combined with fan interactions, the core members of the fanclub have returned with a tribute night on a much larger scale, promising a music space filled with alternative and DIY spirit.

Pẩmore is the playful name for the collective of artists performing Paramore’s music at the upcoming show. Pẩmore will perform live songs spanning the entire discography of Paramore and Hayley Williams. Through many ups and downs, their music has evolved across diverse styles and genres. Whatever your taste may be, there is always a Paramore for you: Emo, Pop-punk, Alternative, Synth-Pop, Post-Punk, New Wave, and more.

Although Paramore is the core inspiration, this night is not only about honoring a band. The Pẩmore collective sees this as an effort to reconnect with the children we once were – those who carried intense passion during our youth and found comfort in music.

Through this concert night, we hope that young people today will also discover a community and friends with whom they can continue writing the story of Pẩmore.

See you on the evening of Saturday, March 7! Ticket details are available at: https://forms.gle/QZSVUeE5Hzf6j3e7A.

Special thanks to the sponsors supporting this show: Emoodzik, Victory CD-DVD, and Khoa Tran.

J-Lens #1.1: Explaining the power of "Kawaii" @ Vietnam Women’s Publishing House Branch HCMC https://saigoneer.com/saigon-events/28782-j-lens-1-1-explaining-the-power-of-kawaii-vietnam-women’s-publishing-house-branch-hcmc https://saigoneer.com/saigon-events/28782-j-lens-1-1-explaining-the-power-of-kawaii-vietnam-women’s-publishing-house-branch-hcmc

Have you ever wondered why “kawaii” — Japan’s iconic aesthetic of cuteness — has become a global phenomenon? Beyond the charming visuals, “kawaii” is a sophisticated cultural code that embodies Japan’s history, emotional landscape, and contemporary identity.

The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, with partners, proudly invites you to a special public lecture: “Theory of Kawaii”. As the first volume of the J-Lens: Perspective of Japan series, the event features distinguished cultural critic YOMOTA INUHIKO — one of Japan’s most influential voices in film and popular culture.

Lecture schedule:

HCMC: 6:30PM | March 10, 2026
Address: Vietnam Women’s Publishing House Branch in Ho Chi Minh City, No.16 Alexandre de Rhodes, Saigon Ward, HCMC.
Register at: https://forms.gle/rojxfQb14xHVdx8t9

Hanoi: 6:30PM | March 13, 2026
Address: Event Space, COMPLEX 01 No. 29/31, Alley 167, Tay Son Street, Kim Lien Ward, HN.
Register at: https://forms.gle/JtUD9mKqC5wYgT2TA

From Hello Kitty and Pokémon to the whimsical worlds of Studio Ghibli, the lecture will trace the evolution of “kawaii” from its roots in shōjo culture to its central role in Japan’s creative industries. Discover how this aesthetic communicates vulnerability, playfulness, and emotional resonance in our complex world.

About “J-Lens: Perspective of Japan” series:
J-Lens explores Japan through diverse intellectual “lenses,” offering new ways to understand its culture, society, and history. Rather than presenting facts alone, each session shows how scholars ask questions and conduct research within their fields. Through these perspectives, audiences are invited to rethink culture, society, and humanity in fresh and engaging ways.

Program Series on Inclusive Dance and Performance with Michael Turinsky

March 21–24, 2026
Goethe-Institut Hanoi, 56-58 Nguyễn Thái Học Street, Ba Đình District, HN

What do we mean when we talk about inclusive art? About accessibility in the arts? About the experiences of individuals and communities when a disabled body must live in a world not designed for them? Or might these conversations extend to other issues – ecology, mobility, and displacement?

To encourage diverse discussions on inclusive art in relation to contemporary issues, as well as to foster collaboration between disabled and non-disabled art practitioners, the Goethe-Institut Hanoi organizes the program series "Thiên / Địa / Thân" with Austrian choreographer Michael Turinsky, in collaboration with Kinergie Studio.

PROGRAM
WORKSHOP "BODYSCAPES" | March 21–24, 2026
1:00PM – 6:00PM daily
English with Vietnamese and sign language interpretation.

Participants:
Open to anyone interested in movement, including both disabled and non-disabled participants. No prior experience in dance or movement is required. The workshop welcomes participants who are open, willing to challenge themselves, and ready to explore new territories.

What would happen if we moved beyond conventional ways of understanding and perceiving our bodies, imagining them as mountains and valleys, rivers and trees, stones and pebbles, lakes and seas? What if the stage were not simply a stage, but a canvas where "nature" moves in harmony?

The Goethe-Institut Hanoi invites artists and movement practitioners – both disabled and non-disabled – to participate in an intensive three-day workshop exploring the relationship between body and environment or landscape.

Drawing from his own artistic practice as well as Sunaura Taylor’s recent book Disabled Ecologies, physically disabled choreographer Michael Turinsky invites participants to explore the relationship between body and landscape – both literally and metaphorically – across diverse sensory and ethical dimensions.

Through improvisational movement exercises, we will deepen sensory awareness and explore fundamental aspects of bodily engagement with the environment: breath, gravity, giving and receiving weight, vibration, and oscillation.

From these physical foundations, participants will be guided to incorporate other elements such as sign language or voice into the creation of their own movement language.

Throughout the workshop, participants will practice basic skills in live composition, ultimately working toward developing a short performance of approximately 10 minutes at the end of the workshop.

Registration: https://forms.office.com/e/6Xz1qrPyJD
Registration deadline: 11:59PM on March 9, 2026.
Applications can be submitted in text, video, or audio format.

WORKSHOP SHARING PERFORMANCE | Evening of March 23, 2026

A presentation of workshop outcomes alongside additional performances.
Detailed information on time and registration will be announced soon.

TALK | March 24, 2026, 6:30 PM

A conversation with Michael Turinsky and local artists about the potential of inclusive art in Vietnam.
Detailed information on time and registration will be announced soon.

ABOUT MICHAEL TURINSKY

Michael Turinsky lives and works in Vienna as a choreographer, performance artist, and theorist. His work explores the specific phenomenology of bodies labeled "disabled" – their particular ways of existing in the world, their relationship with temporality and rhythm, emotion and affect production, gender and sexuality, visibility and invisibility – while engaging seriously with discourses surrounding the productive tensions between politics and aesthetics.

From 1998 to 2005, he studied philosophy at the University of Vienna.

As a performer, he has collaborated with many artists including Bert Gstettner – SCargo, SolimanRevisited; TanzHotel AllInclusive; Barbara Kraus – Fuck all that shit; Legitimate Bodies/Robin Dingemans/Mick Bryson – The point at which it last made sense; and Doris Uhlich – Ravemachine.

His major choreographic works include heteronomous male (2012), My body, your pleasure (2014), as well as later works Second Skin – Turn the beat around (2016), Second Skin – Master of Ceremony (2016), and REVERBERATIONS (2018).

His collaboration with Doris Uhlich in the work Ravemachine received the Nestroy Special Award in 2017.

Michael Turinsky has lectured and conducted workshops at the universities of Linz and Salzburg, at the College Art Association in New York, at Tanzquartier Wien, and within the ImPulsTanz Festival, and has published in various journals.

ABOUT KINERGIE STUDIO

Kinergie Studio&Collective, formerly Kinergie Studio, was founded by dance artists Đỗ Hoàng Thi Ngọc and Trần Hoàng Long with the aim of bringing contemporary dance and ballet closer to the community while nurturing young artistic talent through training programs, workshops, performances, and collaborations with Vietnamese and international artists.

Kinergie believes that movement is for everyone; regardless of physical limitations, profession, or experience level – whether you have years of practice or have never stepped onto a dance floor. This belief drives the studio to organize weekly classes with specialized curricula, produce contemporary dance and ballet performances each quarter, and invite both local and international artists to conduct intensive workshops.

All these efforts are dedicated to bringing the art of movement closer to the community, nurturing emerging artistic talents, and creating a safe space where people can freely express themselves.

Workshop content:

What if we imagine our bodies as mountains, valleys, rivers, treetops, stones, lakes, and ocean waves?

What if the stage is a canvas?

What if we slow down completely to fully experience the layers of our senses – hearing, seeing, smelling, touching – intertwining and connecting the body with its environment?

Drawing from his artistic practice, as well as referencing the recent book Disabled Ecologies by Sunaura Taylor, physically disabled choreographer Michael Turinsky invites participants — both disabled and non-disabled — to explore the relationship between body and landscape through sensory and ethical dimensions.

Through improvisational exercises, we will activate multisensory awareness. We will use choreographic language to explore the dimensions of our bodies in relation to the surrounding environment: breath, gravity, giving and receiving weight, vibration, oscillation, and waves.

The workshop will also explore voice and/or sign language within choreographic practice. Beginning with creative writing exercises, participants will be invited to share their perspectives through both verbal and non-verbal forms of expression.

Participants: Ages 16 and above.
The organizers especially encourage participants with mobility disabilities, hearing impairments, and visual impairments to apply. The program will strive to provide the necessary support throughout the workshop.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR MICHAEL TURINSKY

Michael Turinsky is an artist and theorist living and working in Vienna (Austria), and he is physically disabled. His practice sits at the intersection of contemporary dance, performance art, disability studies, and political and aesthetic theory.

Academically trained as a philosopher at the University of Vienna, Michael began working in inclusive dance in 2006.

Later, he began to question the very concept of “inclusion” and proposed his own term, “crip choreography,” to describe his unique artistic practice: an approach that works with the materiality of the body — specific and resistant — to overturn, deconstruct, and reorganize dominant forms of movement.

Known for his distinctive aesthetic language, ironic references to popular culture, musicality, and intellectual rigor, Michael’s major choreographic works include: Heteronomous male (2012), My body, your pleasure (2014), Reverberations (2018), Precarious Moves (2021), SOILED (2022).

His solo work “Precarious Moves” received the prestigious Nestroy Award for Best Off-Production in 2021.

In 2024, Michael Turinsky was honored as an “Outstanding Artist” by the Austrian Ministry of Culture and Arts.

Website: michaelturinsky.org.

During this visit, Michael Turinsky will meet audiences and artists in Vietnam through workshops and talks in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City initiated by the Goethe-Institut.

Collective Reading #08: Cõi người ta - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry | 07.03.2026

"When in the garden a rose blooms from many grafted varieties, a fresh blossom, gardeners cannot stop admiring it. They set it apart, they care for it, they treat it well. But there is no gardener who tends to human beings.

...

I do not believe in pity. What troubles me is the gardener’s perspective. What troubles me is not that misery itself, because people can still lie quietly within it like the lazy holding onto their ‘lazy child’ and resting there. Many generations in the East have lived in bleak hardship yet remained content. What troubles me cannot be resolved by charitable soup kitchens. What troubles me is not poverty or raggedness, not the ugliness or decay. What troubles me is that in every person there is a Mozart being murdered.

Only the Spirit blowing through clay can create the Human."

"Cõi người ta," originally titled in French "Terre des hommes," is one of the special encounters between the poet Bùi Giáng and the "Little Prince" author Saint-Exupéry. The poetic, sometimes free-spirited translation style of Bùi Giáng has breathed a unique charm into Saint-Exupéry’s philosophical memoir about the meaning of life and the relationships between human beings.

Phòng Đọc warmly invites those interested in the works of Saint-Exupéry as well as the translations of Bùi Giáng to join this early spring “Collective Reading” session together with the librarian.

The event series "TẬP-THỂ ĐỌC" is a community activity belonging to the project "WAYS OF READING" - "NHỮNG CÁCH ĐỌC" by Phòng Đọc, aiming to promote reading culture through the creation of spaces and experiential programs optimally designed for readers.

[REGISTRATION OPEN] WORKSHOP “HÀN HUYÊN CHUYỆN NÀNG”

There are women who pass through history not through their own voices, but through the stories told by others. They are remembered through judgments of “right” and “wrong,” named through criticism, and recalled through endless debates.

Yet between right and wrong, there is always a quiet space.
There may be a difficult choice.
There may be a fear no one ever saw.
There may be a woman standing in the middle of things that do not belong to black or white.

We are not here to condemn, nor to defend. We simply gather to step into that gray space, and look at her with a slower, more thoughtful gaze.

Meetup & Dialogue: Decoding the Ngọc Lũ Bronze Drum Patterns Through Semiotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) https://saigoneer.com/saigon-events/28770-meetup-dialogue-decoding-the-ngọc-lũ-bronze-drum-patterns-through-semiotics-and-artificial-intelligence-ai https://saigoneer.com/saigon-events/28770-meetup-dialogue-decoding-the-ngọc-lũ-bronze-drum-patterns-through-semiotics-and-artificial-intelligence-ai

  • Topic: Decoding the Ngọc Lũ Bronze Drum Patterns Through Semiotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Speaker: Researcher Nguyễn Thái Anh
  • Moderator: Lưu Trọng Nhân - Founder of the Explorians Chất Việt project
  • Time: Sunday afternoon, 8th March 2026
  • Guest reception: 2:30PM, Program begins: 3:00PM
  • Venue: 2nd Floor, Trung Nguyên Legend Coffee, 603 Trần Hưng Đạo Street, Cầu Ông Lãnh Ward, HCMC

Bronze drums, particularly the Ngọc Lũ drum, are not only representative archaeological artifacts of the Đông Sơn civilization but also complex semiotic texts, where patterns, compositions, and visual rhythms form a multilayered system expressing the cosmology and social life of ancient Vietnamese communities. However, current interpretations of bronze drum patterns often rely on speculation and lack verified foundations. This research proposes a new interdisciplinary methodological framework: on the one hand, applying semiotic theory to analyze the functions of the patterns, focusing on resolving the Visual Paradox and Process Paradox in the relationship between expressive function and context. On the other hand, the research applies Artificial Intelligence (AI) through an “unbiased” approach by using common AI models that lack specialized data about the Đông Sơn civilization, aiming to simulate an objective perception of unfamiliar symbols, thereby separating the original layers of expressive function once they are detached from pre-existing interpretive biases or contexts in Vietnam.

In terms of application, the research conducts measurements and cross-cultural comparisons to clarify the practical functions of the decorative bands: (i) Comparing with the Nebra Sky Disk (Federal Republic of Germany) to decode astronomical and calendrical functions as well as the evolution of patterns according to their functions; (ii) Cross-referencing geometric bands with the Viking Sun Compass to verify potential maritime navigation functions; (iii) Using AI to analyze the deer-bird pattern band to decode connections with tidal cycles and lunar calendars; and (iv) Applying AI-assisted image enlargement to reinforce the position of the Lạc bird symbol along with the functions of accompanying bird motifs. The research results aim to open new perspectives on the true creators of the Đông Sơn culture while laying the foundation for interdisciplinary experimental studies between advanced technology and archaeology, as well as cultural anthropology in Vietnam.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER AND MODERATOR

Speaker Nguyễn Thái Anh is an independent researcher passionate about integrating modern technology into cultural preservation. With a technical background from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where his thesis focused on practical analysis of digital presentation methods at Adam Opel AG (Germany), a major turning point came in 2018 when he participated in the “Explorian Chất Việt” exhibition, which sparked a deep appreciation for traditional Vietnamese patterns.

Since 2022, the researcher has focused on semiotics and the application of AI in cultural preservation. He has contributed to projects restoring photographs of fallen soldiers and historical archives for programs A50 and A80, collaborating with institutions such as FPT Polytechnic and the Hanoi Youth Union. He also participated in the MACHINA proposal project on the digital preservation of intangible cultural heritage with a collective of scientists from Darmstadt University of Technology, the University of Regensburg, Deutsches Museum, and various institutions across the EU.

Currently, through the COMEMO.VN platform he founded, the researcher is working to optimize AI technology for extracting ancient patterns, restoring historical photographs, and digitizing Đông Hồ paintings. For him, each project is not only a convergence of technology and art but also a commitment to preserving the nation’s cultural essence through the language of a new era.

Moderator Lưu Trọng Nhân - Founder of the Explorians Chất Việt project. He is also the founder and academic director of TELOS Academy, an institution specializing in training UI/UX Designers and other digital product-related disciplines, as well as an agency focusing on branding and character creation.
