While some of the city's construction projects are lagging – see, for instance, the skeletal riverside tower at the end of Ton Duc Thang – Vinhomes Central Park has breezed ahead, rising by the day from a dusty construction site in Binh Thanh District. Though construction only began in late 2014, the enormous development is beginning to take shape, living up to the hype of its renderings.

[UPDATED] Maintenance on the Asia America Gateway cable has been canceled, according to Thanh Nien. We're not sure if this is good news or bad given the section of cable linking Singapore and Vietnam has been ruptured since early February, however it does mean that we'll have (mostly) functional internet this weekend. At the start of the French conquest in 1859-1860, colonial forces converted four ancient temples into fortresses with the aim of protecting Saigon and Chợ Lớn from attack by Vietnamese royal troops.
