[Photos] A Trip From Downtown to Rural Saigon in 1970

Have you ever wondered why, while there are plenty of photos of downtown Saigon in the past, one almost never come across snapshots of Go Vap, Thu Duc or even sections of District 5 other than Cho Lon?

The answer is simple: they didn’t exist yet, at least not in the way we know them today. In this collection of Saigon photos, taken by an unknown photographer from 1970 to 1971, we’re offered a glimpse into the city’s peripheral areas decades ago. Apart from colorful shopfronts and the usual shots of bustling Quach Thi Trang Square, the visual travelogue also includes rural parts of Saigon, which could pass for any location in the Mekong Delta today.
