Vietnamese Film Wins Top Honors at ASEAN Film Festival

A Vietnamese film named The Way Station won Best Film, Best Lead Actor and Best Director of Photography (DOP) at the 2017 ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA).

According to Tuoi Trethe movie, called Dao Cua Dan Ngu Cu in Vietnamese, was directed by Hong Anh and depicts the relationships between residents of a small Vietnamese fishing village. The screenplay was adapted from a short story written by Do Phuoc Tien. 

Pham Hong Phuoc won Best Leading Actor, while Ly Thai Dung won Best DOP at the ceremony hosted in Kuching, Malaysia last Saturday. 

The news source shares that the film was nominated for a record eight award categories, including Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Leading Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Film Editing, in addition to the three it won. 

Anh, the director, said at the event: "This award is an assertion of The Way Station's positive impression on foreign viewers in its international debut. I hope that it is received with the same love and positivity by local critics and movie lovers." 

AIFFA 2017 included 109 films from the 10 members states of ASEAN, or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
