Here's What Vietnam Googled This Year

Looking back on 2015, Vietnam's internet search history suggests we could all use a good cry and a hug.

According to Bloomberg, Google recently released country-by-country lists of the most Googled search terms in 2015. The results were a rundown of the most important events and cultural phenomena in each nation.

In some parts of Asia, citizens were left reeling after heavy political events rocked their home countries. After the death of two Japanese hostages, for instance, the Islamic State became Japan's most Googled search term, while South Korea worried about MERS, as cases of the respiratory condition were reported in the country.

Southeast Asia, however, was decidedly more lighthearted, as music and television dominated Thailand's Google searches, the Philippines was keen to know about 50 Shades of Grey and Indonesians were transfixed by the jewelry-collecting fad batu akik.

As for Vietnam? Love ballads. Many, many love ballads. Aside from a few random pop culture fads, including Indian TV show Co Dau 8 Tuoi and facial recognition website How-Old.net – which tells users how old a person is based on a photograph of his or her face – slow, sad love songs topped the country's Google searches. In fact, the two most Googled items in Vietnam were Vo Nguoi Ta, which Bloomberg describes as “ a song about a young man crying over his ex-girlfriend's wedding”, and Am Tham Ben Em, “a love song about a gangster who tries to change his ways to regain the love of his girlfriend”.

Check out the full list, as reported by Bloomberg, below:

  1. Vợ Người Ta: a song about a young man crying over his ex-girlfriend's wedding
  2. Âm Thầm Bên Em: a love song about a gangster who tries to change his ways to regain the love of his girlfriend

  9. Cô Dâu 8 Tuổi: an Indian TV series about a girl forced to get married at the age of eight
  10. Chàng Trai Năm Ấy: a romantic comedy based on autobiography of late singer Wanbi Tuan Anh
