Moving Community Artist Talk @ Zero Station

From the organizer: MOVING COMMUNITY

Dear friends, we would like to invite you to join us at our friendly talk at ZeroStation. At this talk, participating artists will give a review of works and projects that they've been working on for the past year as well as what they aimed for and gained after each project.

They will also be discussing about new plans and upcoming projects. Not only the main purpose of this talk is to build a platform for artists to share both their experiences and visions through their art work creating process but also is to form multi-directional dialogues between them and the audience. By that way, the public will get the capacity to view the art scene in a more general way and to thoroughly understand the artists visions. Brief on recent activities at ZeroStation will also be included at the talk.

Participating artist:
Uu Dam Nguyen
Nguyen Nhu Huy
Liar Ben
Truong Minh Quy
Tran Nguyen Trung Tin

About:

-UuDam Nguyen is a visual artist, born in Kontum and raised in various parts of Vietnam and the USA. Trained as a figurative sculptor (BFA – Hochiminh City Fine Art University, 1994) and later a conceptual artist (BA – UCLA, 2001 & MFA – School of Visual Art, 2005), UuDam is fascinated by the ability of art to inspire and affect society. His art tends to pose questions in a poetic and philosophical way. Serious but with a sense of humor, UuDam turns complex contemporary topics into beautiful visual experiences.

-Nguyen Nhu Huy was born in 1971 in Hanoi. He received an BFA major in lacquer painting at Ho Chi Minh University of Fine Art (1994). He's been working as a visual artist, a book translator, a poet and a curator. As a visual artist, his works have been exhibited domestically and internationally. He's the co-founder and editor of the websitewww.vnvisualart.com as well as the founder of ZeroStation. He's also the author behind many writings on contemporary art topics. And he's a musician, too.

-Liar Ben is known as one of the earliest street art practice in Vietnam. He's currently working on a personal project "Lady Sugarcane", a research that uses a public figurative image to convey thoughts on national history and nature of the local resident.

-Truong Minh Quy is an independent film maker originally in Buon Me Thuot. He was training at Ho Chi Minh university of Theatrical Performance and Cinema. In 2010, Quy created a short film named "The Room" which received sponsorship from the Film Asociations of Ho Chi Minh city and later won the Silver Bee prize at the Golden Bee Student Film Festival in the same year. In 2013, he was nominated with the film "Someone Is Going To The Jungle" in Best Short Film category at the Busan International Film Festival.

-Tran Nguyen Trung Tin is a painter and an illustrator based in Ho Chi Minh City. He's currently finishing his last year majoring in silk painting at The Ho Chi Minh University of Fine Art. Started out as a volunteer at ZeroStation, Tin is gradually putting his best effort to help bring new projects to live at ZS in order to shorten the distance between art and the local.
