Mutli-talented Japanese director, Takeshi Kitano (also known as Beat Takeshi) has truly done everything that could be done in showbiz and in the world of culture: film director, film editor, poet, actor, singer, screenwriter and much more. However, outside of his native country Japan, he is mostly known for his films.
In the beginning of his cinema career, he focused on dramas about Yakuza gangsters; he earned the attention and admiration of international audiences with the controversial “Battle Royal”, “Sonatine” and the samurai film “Zatoichi”.
This Wednesday, deciBel Lounge will screen Kitano’s first film in English language - “Brother” (2000), where the director goes back to his early films themes. The story sees Beat Takeshi, a Yakuza gangster, being exiled to Los Angeles where he sets up a large scale drug business with the help of a local gangster (Omar Epps).
