Vietnam Airlines Increases Carry-On Weight Limit From 7kg to 12kg

The national airline has increased the carry-on luggage weight limit from seven to 12 kilograms for economy tickets.

The new regulations for domestic and international flights, as featured on Vietnam Airlines' website, go into effect for tickets issued on or after August 1. The change is intended to comply with safety standards and facilitate transfers with other international carriers that have recently increased their weight limits, according to Dan Tri. Meanwhile, business and premium class fliers will be able to carry on 18 kilograms. For all ticket types, the weight can be distributed between one 56 x 36 x 23 cm piece of luggage and an accessory no larger than 40 x 30 x 15 cm.

Moreover, passengers can carry on additional items, including purses, laptops, reading material, baby-carrying baskets and cameras with no fee. Regarding checked luggage, the airline allows one free 23-kilogram item for those on economy flights within Vietnam or to Northeast Asia, Europe and Australia. For flights to Japan and the US, passengers are allowed two of such items.

In May, Vietnam Airlines announced a special promotion for travelers with no checked luggage. In response to the busy summer period, the airline is offering 50% off fairs to and from Southeast Asian countries.
