According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), Vietnam has reeled in more than 677,000 foreign tourists in August, a 22% increase from last year.
The numbers are not only healthy for this month, but also for the year-to-date with nearly 4.9 million foreign visitors, up 7.9% compared to this time last year. This means that Vietnam had already reached 68% of its target 7.2 million visitors for the 2013.
Voice of Vietnam reported that the largest increases from 2012 to 2013 came from Russia (up 63.1%), China (up 33.1%), Indonesia (up 25.6%), Thailand (up 24.2%) and New Zealand (up 21.9%).
The news is also good for domestic tourism which saw an increase of 11.7% to 29.3 million, accounting for 83.7% of the set target.
Total revenues from the country’s tourism industry are predicted to reach VND138.2 trillion this year, up 22.5% over last year.
