Supermarkets are becoming increasingly popular in Saigon but traditional markets still reign supreme. They act as the lifeblood of neighborhoods, where farmers from all over Southern Vietnam bring their goods, providing a (usually) fresh source of produce for the city’s residents. This has been the case for hundreds of years for Saigon which, even before French occupation, was the site of the region’s central wet market.
