Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam — [11/26/25] — Rotary Club Saigon International (RCSI) proudly announces three new international service projects addressing critical challenges in Vietnam: congenital heart disease, breast cancer screening, and education programs that reduce human trafficking risks. Together, these projects reinforce RCSI’s commitment to building sustainable, life-changing impact for vulnerable communities.
1. FROM HEARTS TO HEARTS — Saving Children Born with Congenital Heart Disease
RCSI has secured two Rotary Global Grants totaling USD 91,900, enabling life-saving heart surgeries for 65 children across Vietnam. In partnership with VinaCapital Foundation’s Heartbeat Vietnam Program, Rotary Club Jeju-Seobu (South Korea), and Rotary Club Fort Collins Breakfast (USA), the project targets one of Vietnam’s most urgent health needs: without surgery, 85% of children with congenital heart disease will not survive to adulthood.
Rotary contributes USD 1,500 per surgery, with the remaining cost covered by government insurance and HBVN donors — ensuring 100% of Rotary funds go directly to children. In total, RCSI and global Rotary partners have raised USD 125,100 for the program.
2. END BREAST CANCER — Free Screening & Early Detection for 2,000 Women
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death in Vietnam, despite being 90% curable when detected early.
RCSI, together with Bright Future Fund, is launching a major women's health initiative offering free breast cancer screening for 2,000 women in Thừa Thiên Huế, along with community education for early detection.
The project is designed for sustainability and scalability, supporting Vietnam’s long-term goals in:
- early detection
- cancer registry development
- public health data analysis
3. FIGHTING HUMAN TRAFFICKING THROUGH EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS
In remote and disadvantaged areas of Vietnam, lack of after-school support increases the risk of school dropout — a key factor linked to human trafficking.
RCSI, in partnership with Pacific Links Foundation and Rotary Club of Saratoga (District 5170), is implementing an education and scholarship program valued at USD 92,275.
The project provides:
- financial support for high-risk students
- tutoring and academic resources
- training for teachers, parents, and youth
- curriculum development led by Rotarians and experts
This comprehensive model strengthens protective factors that help prevent trafficking before it begins.
A Milestone for Rotary Club Saigon International
“These projects mark the first strong foundation stones for our young Club,” said Hoa Nguyen, Founding Member and President-Elect of RCSI. “From saving children’s lives, to protecting women’s health, to keeping vulnerable students safe — this is Rotary’s purpose in action.”
