16 Dead In Hanoi Helicopter Crash

According to VNExpress, early this morning, a helicopter crashed in Village 11, Thạch Hoà, Thạch Thất District, Hanoi, injuring many people.

The helicopter went down in a residential area and burst into flames.

The injured were hospitalized and the fire was put out at about 8:30am.

Thanh Nien reports that that the accident occurred at 7:30am this morning and that the downed aircraft was a Russian-made MI-171. The helicopter, stationed at Regiment 916, was participating in parachuting exercise and had 21 people onboard.

“Many people on the helicopter were burned to death, some others were injured and rushed to hospital,” said Duong Nhu Hung, chairman of Thach Hoa Commune, told Lao Dong Newspaper.

According to Tuoi Tre, 16 soldiers were killed and 5 were injured in the crash.
