At the start of this month, MobiFone quietly launched its 4G service to urban Vietnam’s smartphone users.
MobiFone customers in Hanoi, Saigon and Da Nang now have the option of either purchasing a new 4G SIM card or opting for data packages at a monthly rate of VND120,000 – VND600,000, reports VietnamNet.
The telecom provider’s 4G service will be piloted in certain areas of the three cities first before expanding across the country. To advertise its new service, MobiFone is also giving away free same-network calls and texts as a promotional offer.
Over the last year, telecommunications companies in Vietnam have been thrown into fierce competition over 4G services. Late last year, Viettel began its own test run of the service in Vung Tau, while Vinaphone tried its 4G out on Phu Quoc as well as in Saigon.
Though MobiFone may still be working out the kinks on its own 4G, this is the first official introduction of the service for Vietnamese smartphone users.
The telecom company also launched a paid TV service, MobiTV, on July 1.
