Groom Picks Up Bride in Forklift During Central Vietnam Wedding

A newlywed couple in central Vietnam has gained 15 minutes of internet fame thanks to their unconventional wedding vehicle.

According to VnExpress, during a recent wedding in Nghe An province, the groom brought his wife home on a forklift. Pictures of the unnamed couple being lifted above the street by the machine quickly went viral, to mixed reactions.

Local officials did not approve of the stunt. The news source reports that the chairman of Phu Thanh commune, where the ceremony took place, used the area's loudspeakers to warn the couple to stop. Afterwards, they were summoned to the communal government office and reminded that riding on a forklift is dangerous.

According to Tuoi Tre, some online commentators approved of the unique transportation choice, while others admonished the groom for putting his wife in danger.

"Look how close they were to the electric wires. What if something terrible happened on what should have been the happiest day in the couple's life?", one comment read.

Per Vietnamese tradition, grooms generally bring a car to their bride's home to pick her up and return to his house for the wedding ceremony.

VnExpress quotes Luu Duc Luc, a neighbor of the forklift-riding couple, who shared that he had celebrated his grandmother's 100th birthday in the same way: "During my grandmother's celebration, the truck only lifted her about two meters off the ground; we used a seatbelt just in case. I think they went up over three meters yesterday."
